The Maria Van Eyck socks, a project I did in collaboration with the city of Ghent, for the Van Eyck Year (2020 was the year in which Ghent honored one of his most famous artists in history; Jan Van Eyck). Therefore I was asked to make something that was typical for TAMU but with a reference to Van Eyck. As TAMU stands for colors and prints, my choice was obvious. As for the reference, I turned to the works of Van Eyck and stopped at the painting of Maria or also well-known as “the worship of the Lamb of God”. Maria is the second name of my daughter but also the title of one of my favorite songs by Michael Jackson, so yeah, it had to be her.
